The 10mm cartridge doesn’t have the same level of popularity as the 9mm or 45ACP, but it’s managed to stick around. In fact, the round has won the hearts of quite a few lately. It’s no surprise to see people asking for various handguns to be chambered in 10mm. It’s a big pistol round that has a respectable amount of zip behind it. (We can’t blame you for wanting one.)

TAC Ultra Full-Sized & Mid-Sized TAC Ultra MS
The TAC Ultra Series introduces a full tactical rail and is built with quality steel. The full-sized model is built around a five-inch barrel that is supported by a full-length guide rod. The mid-sized barrel is slightly shorter at four-and-a-quarter inches.
For iron sights, both are equipped with a low-profile, adjustable rear sight and a fiber-optic front sight to provide better visibility. Both models are finished with a durable, parkerized matte coating. As standard with all Rock Island 1911s, the TAC Ultras come with a 4-to-6-pound trigger.
Lastly, if you prefer to modify a bit, the TAC Ultra series has a picatinny rail integrated for use with tac-lights or laser sights.

Rock Ultra Full-Sized & Rock Ultra Full-Sized High-Capacity
The Rock Ultra Series does away with the picatinny rails, providing a look geared more toward the traditional design. Both of these models use a five-inch barrel and smooth-angled, snag-free styling for quicker draws. As with the TAC Series, you’ll be getting low-profile, adjustable rear sights and fiber-optic front sights, along with the same parkerized finish and 4-to-6-pound trigger.
If you’re looking for extra capacity, then you’ll definitely want to look here, as the Rock Ultra also has a double-stack model that boosts magazine capacity to 16. (What’s not to love about that?)

If you want the Rock Ultra in a slightly smaller package, then you have the option with the mid-sized version. You guessed right—it’s a four-and-a-quarter-inch barrel but with all the features you get on the full-sized Rock Ultra.

Choose Wisely
You can’t go wrong with any of these 10mm options. Whether it’s for target shooting, wild hog hunting or for protection against bears in the pacific northwest, a 10mm 1911 is an excellent option. While they are a bit higher in price than other Rock Island 1911s, you’ll be stretched to find another 10mm 1911 on the market that can compete with the value of an RIA.
